Took exams for a 2nd Class Excise officer in Cork at the age of 20 Feb 21 1873 article listed in London Gazette on 5th Jan 1872Registerd in 1881 census in England (Much Wenlock, Shropshire) living with William & Eliza Theobald and 15 year old Jane Hollinshead, a great niece of Eliza. His profession is listed as Ride Off Inland Rev Excise C.S.O.John Henry then had a child with Jane (he was aged 29/30 she was just 15) called Harry Lendrum Hollinsead (b.22 Nov 1882) He never married Jane and did not stick around to be involved with Harry. He moved very quickly and was seen less than 12 months later living in Llanbordy, Camarthanshire which was is place of living on his marriage certificate. He must have been seeing Alice Mary Atkinson (chemists & druggist daughter) as he married her 8 Oct 1883 aged 30 in Bridgenorth (which is very close to Much Wenlock Shropshire). His profession is listed as Customs & ExciseJohn must have spent some time in Totnes, probably passing exams because when he is seen on the 1901 Scottish census his occupation is listed as Inland Revenue Excise office (1st class) He lived in Kirkcaldy Scotland with his wife and children from 1891?? to his death on 5 Mar 1933 aged 81. He died of senile decay. Alice died in 1939 aged 77 of breast cancer in Kirkcaldy.
